FAQ

What is a pip?

A pip stands for ‘percentage in points’ or ‘price in points’. This term was traditionally the smallest price increment of a currency pair; also, it measures the amount of change in the exchange rate for a currency pair, calculated using the last decimal point. For FX majors and minors excluding JPY, a pip is the 4th decimal point (0.0001). Meanwhile, on JPY pairs, a pip is the 2nd decimal point (0.01).

How to measure a currency spread?

The spread is the difference between the best bid and the best ask quotes of a currency pair, is measured in pips, and affects the cost of entering a trade. (Spread = Best Ask Price – Best Bid Price)

*The bid price is the price you can sell the base currency

*The ask price is the price to buy the base currency

*The base currency is shown on the left of the currency pair. Also, the variable, quote or counter currency, on the right.

How are forex CFD prices calculated?

Our CFD prices (Contracts for Difference) are derived from spot market prices. As CFDs are a derivative you are not trading physical currencies.

What are the most popular currency pairs?

EUR/USD is the most widely traded pair so it tends to have the tightest spread. But depending on the region and news flow, USD/JPY is also very popular with day traders, along with EUR/JPY and AUD/JPY.

What is tick volume?

The tick volume indicator looks very similar to a traditional volume indicator, only tick volume counts the number of bid/ask quotes per bar. Whereas a volume indicator from an exchange represents how many shares or contracts have been traded per bar.

How many forex currency pairs do you offer?

FXTRADING.com offers 45 currency pairs among many other products across commodities, metals, indices and cryptocurrencies. You can also enjoy lightning-fast execution from tier-1 liquidity providers.

FAQ

What are the most liquid cryptocurrencies to trade?

Obrt than 1600 cryptocurrencies are listed on major, middle-sized and specialist exchanges. Bitcoin is the largest cryptocurrency in market capitalisation, with an estimated market cap of USD 673 billion in early 2021. Ethereum is the second-largest at $177 billion, and Tether at $27 billion, having recently moved above Ripple’s XRP.

Do I own the underlying cryptocurrencies through trading crypto CFDs?

No, CFDs are derivative products. Cryptocurrency trading means assuming a financial position on the price direction of individual cryptocurrencies against the dollar (in crypto/dollar pairs) without owning cryptocurrency. CFDs (contracts for difference) are a trendy way to trade cryptocurrencies as they allow for greater flexibility, the use of leverage and the ability to take short and long positions.

Is it possible to practice trading with crypto CFDs?

Absolutely. Open a free demo account on MT4 and MT5 you can paper trade our currency CFDs.

Can you trade blockchain?

No, at least not directly. Blockchain is the technology that runs the Bitcoin payment system, whilst Bitcoin is the cryptocurrency. But blockchain has many more uses than running bitcoin’s payment system.

When can I trade crypto CFDs?

Our platforms offer crypto CFDs trading 24 hours a day, 7 days a week between Monday at 0:00 and Sunday 24:00 server time.

FAQ

Which stock exchanges are your share CFDs listed on?

We provide access to all the major exchanges from over 20 countries. With too many to mention, just some exchanges include the NYSE (New York Stock Exchange), LSE (London Stock Exchange), ASX (Australian Securities Exchange) and TSE/TYO (Tokyo Stock Exchange).

Which software can I trade share CFDs on?

We provide access to two world class trading platforms: IRESS ViewPoint and IRESS Mobile.

Can I demo CFD share trading?

Yes. Contact us via live chat or send an email to [email protected] to request a free IRESS demo.

Do share CFDs pay dividends?

Yes. If the underlying company pays out a dividend, an adjustment to your CFD position will account for the dividend payout. Dividend adjustments can be a credit or a debit, depending on whether the trader is long or short the relevant CFD.

Can I hedge my shares?

No. IRESS works slightly differently to some other software providers and ‘nets’ your positions’. For example, if you ‘buy’ 100 Westpac shares then ‘sell’ 50 shares you would be long 50x Westpac shares.

FAQ

What are commodities?

Commodities are physical assets, usually produced in high volumes that are then traded on a commodity exchange (oil, corn, copper etc.). Their prices fluctuate daily and can provide high levels of volatility.

How are commodity CFD prices calculated?

Our commodity CFD prices are based on the underlying spot markets (also called cash markets).

What is contango and backwardation?

Contango is when future commodity prices are lower than spot commodity prices, as traders expect the commodity to fall in value in the future. Backwardation, which more commonly occurs, is when futures prices are higher than current commodity spot prices.

What are the main market drivers for commodity prices?

A broad range of fundamental drivers for commodities include inflation, growth, geopolitical tensions, weather, US dollar strength/weakness, supply and demand.

MT4 Market Watch > Right mouse click over market > Choose “Specification” from the dropdown menu

FAQ

Can I trade mini or micro lots on metal CFDs?

Are there overnight holding costs on metal CFDs?

Yes. A swap charge will be applied to an open position if trades are held overnight (over 00:00 MT4 server time). The rates may also vary depending on the size and direction of the trade and underlying interest rate.

On Wednesday nights, Triple swap will be charged to the account to settle trades over the weekend where no swap rates have been charged due to market closure.
